Internet Anonymity-10 ways to hide your internet trails and improve your security

I'm in your pc,stealing your passwordz

The internet is based on sharing.People add content to the network and it gradually grows larger. The internet is also like a muddy swamp full of houses.Whenever you visit a domain, you leave virtual mud trails which can lead to your ip,identity, location and isp.You also catch digital leeches from each domain(cookies and sometimes spyware) which store your information and make it available to advertisers and crackers(malicious hackers).
Without further ado, I present you with 10 neat ways to keep your digital identity hidden:

  1. Use a secure browser; Some browsers are more secure than others, far more secure in fact.As a general rule, most modern browsers(i.e.the latest editions of Mozilla Firefox,Chrome,Opera,Safari and IE) are secure enough. If you are using Internet Explorer 6 and you just found your nude pictures online though, you should seriously change your browser and you should stop storing your nude pictures in the first place!
  2. Make a habit of deleting your cookies and browsing history; The way to do this is different for every browser, but it should ensure that your searches and personal info are kept to yourself.
  3. Install  anti-spyware and antivirus programs; These will make foreign access to your files and personal information and files impossible through known means. My personal security suite is Avast Free antivirus for live scanning,Malwarebytes for malware not detected by Avast and Spybot S&D for cookie elimination.
  4. Install ad-blocking and anti-tracking addons to your browser; Ad-blocking addons like adblock will make every ad disappear,so you won't  accidentally be led to a site full of malware through one.Anti-tracking addons like Ghostery will block tracking cookies operating inside websites.
  5. Avoid bad sites; Sites with pornographic content or illegal file downloads are usually scams and places to get malware from.Avoid them completely or at least be prepared before entering them.
  6. Don't post your personal information online; You wouldn't make a huge sign with your phone number, adress and age and place on a highway,so why do the online equivalent of that and make it available for an even larger audience?(Especially on social networks)
  7. Use many email addresses; Use one or several main emails for communicating with your friends and relatives and for critical data(access to bank accounts, credit card password recovery) and other secondary accounts for subscribing to forums, newsletters and other unimportant stuff. This way you will minimize spam and tracking you will be much harder.
  8. Use a forwarding proxy server; The proxy server will conceal your ip address and make tracing your location and isp, much harder.
  9. Use a virtual machine; By browsing through a virtual machine, you isolate your physical machines data.I recommend using a UNIX based operating system as the guest os because the majority of malware are made for Windows.
  10. Inform yourself; Software and tweaks can go so far as protecting you from known threats.New threats appear every day though,so it is up to you to know how to deal with them.
This concludes my list, but what about yours? Please post your suggestions and questions in the comments.
